Most modern chart ploters also have the capability to display radar images. It is no longer necessary to have a separate dedicated display.

 

RADAR for Small Boats

Radar was invented during WWII and , in recent years, has become quite small and affordable for small boats. This course is one of the modules of the CYA/FVQ Advanced Navigation standard and uses a computer based simulator.

Using radar for navigation purposes is not as intuitive as people imagine. For collision avoidance purposes it is even less intuitive.
